Do you want to be a part of the movement to change things for FASD in Ohio?

We want to team up with you to change things for the estimated over half a million individuals with FASD in Ohio.  We can only do this if we partner together!  With so much focus on multi-system youth, foster care, and the opioid crisis in Ohio right now, we have to show our legislators and communities that FASD support is a critical piece of the solution.

Advocacy Goals

Signage Law

We are working with legislators all over the state to reintroduce a bill requiring signage at places that sell alcohol.  This is shown to reduce FASD in states with this law. Ohio would be the 24th state to implement a law like this.

Diagnostic Clinics

There are three FASD diagnostic clinics in Ohio.  With a disability 2.5x more common than Autism, this is unacceptable. Only 1% of FASD cases are diagnosed and a diagnosis is a protective factor. We must increase diagnostic options for families.

Education

We believe there is no real change unless people KNOW what FASD is.  We seek to require FASD education in licensure approval including for foster parents, social workers, educators, and medical professionals.

What is FASD?

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a lifelong disability that affects the brain and body of people who were exposed to alcohol in the womb.  Each person with FASD has both strengths and challenges and will need special supports to help them succeed with many different parts of their daily lives.
